Surfing / WindsurfingBarra and Vatersay are becoming increasingly popular destinations for surfing and windsurfing. With beautiful, remote white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters you will often have the beaches to yourself. There is no shortage of wind in Barra and every beach is exposed to the Atlantic but perhaps the best beach for windsurfing is the Traigh Mhor, the beach where the plane lands twice daily on the beach. Behind the airport Traigh Eais is perfect for surfing with its big breakers and endless sandy beach. Vatersay is another great place for surfing with fantastic views of Castlebay and its neighbouring Islands.During July there is a sailing and windsurfing week for people of all ages wishing to gain qualifications in beginner, intermediate or advanced classes. These classes take place in Loch St Clare and in Castlebay itself.
