The second Barra and Vatersay Island Produce show was held on Saturday 6th September in Castlebay Community Hall. 

In total 76 people took part in the open sections (Garden, Industrial, Fishing and Crofting) and 70 children took part. There were over 384 exhibits, an increase of 82% on last year. Nearly all of the classes were very well supported. There was a fantastic display of vegetables and fruit. The array of baking looked mouth-watering and the crafts on display were tremendous. The Croilegan children and primaries 1-4 in both Castlebay and Eoligarry had been very busy with their entries which were of a very high standard – making the Judges job very difficult.

This year the Show Champion and winner of the MacNeil and Mrs MacNeil of Barra Shield was Barbara Carmichael with a massive 176 points and the Reserve Champion was Angus MacLeod with 126 points. Congratulations to everyone who won prizes.

In the afternoon people were queuing at the door to see the results of the exhibitors hardwork and who had won prizes. At the end of the show the produce was auctioned off. All the money raised on the day will go towards the running of this and future shows.
