Cockling
© Siar Media 2012
Once upon a time the beaches used be plentiful in cockles and people could make a living from it. Nowadays the cockles are far less plentiful, people still try to make something from it but it is not as easy as it used to be. However, if you are willing to stand on the exposed beach with a rake and a bucket and are willing to put a bit of effort in, then you can be rewarded with easily enough an evenings feed. The best place for cokling is on the Traigh Mhor, the airport Beach. You are reminded that cockling must take place outside of the runway markers on the beach. Under no circumstances should you wonder inside of these markers especially at times when flights are due to land there.
